Digital India – The Next Big Thing for Native Businesses


Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India is an ambitious plan to transform India into digitally-empowered society and knowledge economy. The program is centered on three key vision areas:
  • Digital infrastructure as a core utility to every citizen
  • Governance and services on demand
  • Digital empowerment of citizens

And the three big goals of Digital India Campaign are:
  • Connect 2,50,000 villages with broadband optical network
  • Investment of Rs. 4.5 lakh crore
  • Creating 1.8 million jobs
That is quite a number by any standard. The program can propel native businesses considering three vital aspects:

Growth opportunities:
In 2013, India had around 150 million internet users who contributed around Rs.3.6 trillion or 3.2 % of India’s GDP. In 2014, internet users grew to 190 million and it is likely to cross the 500 million mark by 2018, helping India’s internet economy to reach Rs.10 trillion mark, which will be 5% of India’s GDP.
